Today we began working on Lab 1. The first activity on the agenda was to create a paper circuit using construction paper, LED lights, a button-cell battery, and copper tape. The flexible copper tape was the component that brought the possibility of using paper as a medium for a circuit board.

I came up with a concept Valentine's day card for my girlfriend. I wanted there to be a button that said "Do I love you?" and for only the green light to light up with the word "Yes". In order to do this, I used the bottom sheet of paper to make the circuit, and used another sheet of paper placed on top to hide everything and and display the text.

This is the wiring setup:

The negative terminal of the green LED is connected to the negative terminal of the battery with copper tape, and there is a small section of copper tape connected to the positive terminal of the battery and extending to the side. When a person presses down in the right spot on the top sheet of paper, the copper tape on top makes contact with the positively charged copper tape on bottom, thus completing the circuit.

This is the final product:

This was a fun exercise and a cute product. I already have a little bit of knowledge about circuits, however this was my first time making a paper circuit and the exercise was definitely beneficial.
